Climate Smart Institute
In 2015 DoTerra Essential Oils, a US corporation, donated US$50,000 to purchase land and build a Climate-Smart Agriculture Training Facility to teach farmers and agriculture students about climate change mitigation for our planet's sustainability.
Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) is an approach that helps to guide actions needed to transform and reorient agricultural systems to effectively support development and ensure food security in a changing climate. CSA aims to tackle three main objectives: sustainably increasing agricultural productivity and incomes; adapting and building resilience to climate change; and reducing and/or removing greenhouse gas emissions, where possible.
We purchased a quarter-acre of land adjacent to our organic Climate-Smart Pilot Farm in South Manchester Jamaica. We began construction of a 3,000 square foot facility. The building is designed to accommodate up to 28 trainees/volunteers, it will have a two dorms for male and female visitors, a classroom, farmers market, organic food packing facility and a distillery to train in the production of essential oils.
We began construction but have run out of funds to complete the building. We need your support to help us complete this facility and begin to educate our students and farmers on food security through environmentally friendly farming.
