Beginning with a test plot in October 2014, our long-term goal is to grow 100 acres of organically grown non-genetically modified (non-GMO) corn locally on the island. Currently, Jamaica imports nearly 100% of the corn being used for animal feedstock and human consumption.
We plan to train farmers in organic cultivation, providing them with the organic inputs, materials and labor force necessary to complete and harvest this non-GMO corn.
85% of U.S. corn is genetically modified. Our project will give the international community access to organic corn and by-products that are not so abundant in their own countries.
We are currently evaluating the feasibility of several farms and will keep everyone abreast as to our progress.
